One question I wanted to try and answer was how pop culture views this genre of horror. I wasn’t able to find an article about it since it is a pretty niche subgenre of horror that isn’t super big in the pop culture view. Instead I decided to conduct a survey to see how my peers view this subgenre of horror, and if they are even aware of it. 

 

I got 26 responses from the survey, my first question was “Have you heard of Nostalgic Horror?” The responses were really close to 50/50 with 57.7% answering yes and 42.3% answering no. These helped confirm my idea that not many people are aware of nostalgic horror and don’t know it is a subgenre of horror. My next few questions I asked were free write because I wanted to hear what people thought of the genre. Overall people thought it was an interesting genre and that the nostalgia adds another level of horror and ends up making it scarier for them. Out of all those answers there was one that was “I think it exists but it might not be scary to everyone” Which, when talking about horror it is important to remember that not everyone will find it as scary as the majority of people, and reactions can vary across the board. Overall my survey gave me a really good insight into what people think of this subgenre and if they are even aware of it.
