Nostalgic Horror
Introduction
Nostalgia can be a nice warm and fuzzy feeling, usually it’s just people reflecting on their childhood memories and the toys they had as a kid or t.v. shows they would watch. But within the past few decades there has been an increased fascination in nostalgic horror. Horror is a very broad genre and it has many different subgenres under its umbrella, nostalgic horror is one of the subgenres that has recently grown popular with new generations. Nostalgic Horror plays with fears and worries you would have when you were a kid, and makes you relive those fears as an adult. Sometimes things can fall under the umbrella if it’s a popular movie from people’s childhoods or can be something original that purposefully uses nostalgia and twists it into horror with child-like fears. Whether it’s movies, video games, or online ARG’s this genre of horror has begun to captivate fans. You may have even interacted with nostalgic horror without being aware of it, some popular things from that genre include Stranger Things, It, Five Nights at Freddy’s, CreepyPasta, and so many more indie projects. I personally love this genre and interact with many different forms of the genre, but I want to see if it is popular with my peers or if it is still a very small unknown genre.
